THE LONGEST SUBMERGED TUNNEL IN THE WORLD: A MILESTONE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

A Key Moment in Construction! A Major Milestone Has Been Achieved in the Fehmarnbelt Project

The construction of the longest submerged tunnel in the world, the Fehmarnbelt, has reached a key moment: the first two elements, weighing 73,500 tons, have been successfully transferred from the Rødbyhavn factory to the basins.

At Rúbrica Engineering, we are proud to have contributed to this mega infrastructure project, providing advanced solutions in formwork, auxiliary equipment, and access platforms, ensuring safety, precision, and efficiency in the execution of the work.

Formwork Systems and Equipment Supplied for the Fehmarnbelt Project

Our expertise in civil engineering and submerged tunnel construction has been crucial in developing 11 specialized solutions for this project:

1. Pin and Catch System: Precision in Structural Alignment

This system is designed to ensure the proper alignment of structural elements during positioning, ensuring efficient and safe installation.

2. Multipurpose: Access Platform and Mobile Access Tower

An access system designed to facilitate finishing work on SPE and STE elements both inside and outside the tunnel. It includes the Mobile Access Tower, optimizing access to elevated areas.

3. SPE Formwork: Production in Line 6

Specialized formwork system for the manufacturing of SPE elements, ensuring precision in production.

4. Rebar Racks: Efficient Transport and Storage

Structures designed to facilitate the transportation of rebar from the mesh assembly stage to its installation on-site.

5. Palid: Safe Rebar Handling

Auxiliary equipment specialized in rebar handling, optimizing safety and efficiency on-site.

6. Sliding Gate: Motorized Mobile Gate

A system for closing the basing, incorporating motorization and hydraulic integration for automated operation.

7. Rail Walkway: Formwork for Sidewalks in Railway Tunnels

Designed for the concreting of sidewalks (platforms) within railway tubes, ensuring resistance and durability.

8. Water Ballast: Self-Installing Panels for Structural Stability

These panels allow the creation of four water tanks within the Railway Tube (RT), used to stabilize elements during the navigation and installation phase.

9. Access Shafts: Access Equipment in Submerged Environments

We supplied four types of Access Shafts designed according to their functionality:

  • Ventilation

  • Personnel access

  • Material entry with crane

  • Concrete supply

10. Draw Bridge: Telescopic Walkway for Access Shafts

A system designed to allow access to submerged elements through the Access Shafts, with two configurations:

  • Telescopic platform to bridge gaps at entrances.

  • Automatic door closure in case of emergency, ensuring structural safety.

11. ELB: Mobile Scaffolding for Rebar Assembly

Mobile systems up to three levels designed to facilitate rebar assembly in high-rise structures.

Progress in the Construction of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel

The elements will remain in the basins until Femern Link Contractors (FLC) begins the final work and prepares the first for immersion. A total of 89 structural elements will be produced to complete this impressive infrastructure project.

We congratulate everyone involved in this historic achievement in submerged tunnel construction! FLC
